Azul Bahia
information A blue sodalite foidolite of the Precambrian period, Portuguese "azul" = blue. The blue colour is caused by sodalite, the stone is available since about 1965.
Mineral distribution on the average: microcline: 51%, sodalite: 30%, cancrinite: 10%, plagioclase: 5%, aegirine: 2%, mafite: 2%.
Technical and physical characteristics: Bulk density according to ABNT NBR 12.766: 2,545 kg/dm³, bending strength according to ABNT NBR 12.763: 16,64 N/mm², compression breaking load according to ABNT NBR 12.767: 169,20 N/mm², abrasion resistance according to ABNT NBR 12.042 (Amsler): 0,75 mm, water absorption according to ABNT NBR 12.766: 0,04%, frost resistant, polish constant only inside.

Uses: Building stone, ornamental stone.
Azul Bahia is one of the most expensive natural stones, the raw blocks are often small.
Caution, acids will be change the blue colour of the sodalite into grey !

The spread of texture of Azul Bahia is very wide. A small sample is mostly not representative. To get an impression, pictures of large slabs or of finished projects should be presented to the customer.
